Why is it so easy to break the law in South Downtown

Code Violation Letters to Businesses Central Atlanta Progress and Operation Best Foot Forward  has taken a leadership role in addressing code violations that plague South Downtown. Letter s were sent out to business owners that have been breaking the law. Follow-up by APD  Code enforcement is still necessary.

South Downtown can be a trashy place

LAZ Parking – 76 Forsyth Street / MLK LAZ Parking lot recently repaired their gates.  The front entrance gate had been compromised, allowing trespassers onto the property after hours. LAZ worked with the community to fix the gate and also secure the basement and repair the broken windows in the basement.

Possible Code Violations – Together with Central Atlanta Progress and Operation Best Foot Forward we are addressing many of the Code Violations around the neighborhood. We believe that a broken window, a dirty lot is an invitation for criminals to commit crimes.

Trash Can Replacement  - Together with Central Atlanta Progress  CAP,  we are trying to get replacement trash cans in the area. In January 2012, several trash cans were stolen. CAP has been tasked with replacing the trash cans. So far delivery of these trash cans has not taken place. Update Trash Cans have been replaced.

Lighting - We are working with the new business owners at 100 Broad Street to install lighting inside and outside their storefront to discourage crime after hours. We plan to roll out the lighting campaign to other owners on Broad Street that may benefit from new lighting. Mr. Charles installing new lights at 100  Broad Street.

.

Replacement of Street Pavers on Broad Street – After a long hard struggle residents and business owners have received the support of Public works and are in the process of installing new pavers on Broad Street between Mitchell and Martin Luther King. This project will continue the beautification project of Broad Street.
